Who We Are?

The National Academy of Maay Culture and Sciences is an independent academic governmental institution designed to protect and promote the diverse cultural expressions and archaeological heritages of Somalia.

It is particularly intended to conduct empirical research on Somali culture and sciences with particular emphasis on Maay speaking and neighboring communities in the southern Somalia.

Our Vision

Our vision is a Somalia where all cultural heritages and values are celebrated and promoted, and where Maay elevated as an official language, is implemented equally with Maxaatiri in all national and educational curricular matters, as affirmed by Article 5 of the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen institutional and societal capacities to collect, preserve, promote, and safeguard the tangible and intangible cultural heritages of all communities in Somalia and the region.
We aim to foster innovation as a foundation for peace and sustainable development.
